Johnny Cash ft. Nine Inch Nails “Hurt”
Hurt è un singolo dei Nine Inch Nails, estratto dall’album The Downward Spiral e pubblicato nel 1994. Ne è l’ultima traccia e di fatto costituisce la parte finale della storia del concept album. Dopo il suicidio, descritto nella precedente title-track, il protagonista si ferisce da solo per vedere se prova ancora dolore (I hurt myself today, to see if i still feel), ma si accorge che è tutto inutile. Da notare che, nella versione di Cash, il verso “I wear this crown of shit” (indosso questa corona di merda) è stato cambiato in “I wear this crown of thorns” (indosso questa corona di spine).
Johnny Cash, alla nascita John R. Cash (1932 –2003), è stato un cantautore e chitarrista statunitense, interprete di numerose canzoni folk e di celebri talking blues.
Nota: il regista del video chiese a Cash a cosa stesse pensando mentre chiudeva il pianoforte nel modo in cui si vede nel video. Lui rispose che era come chiudere il coperchio della bara, dal momento in cui lui sapeva che la sua vita era agli sgoccioli.

After the suicide, described in the previous title-track, the player hurt himself by just to see if it proves more pain (I hurt myself today, to see if i still feel), but he realizes that it’s useless. Note that, in Cash version, the verse “I wear this crown of shit” was changed to “I wear this crown of thorns”.

Note: The director asked what was Johnny thinking when he closed the piano like he did. He said it was like closing the coffin lid since he knew his time here was almost up.
